Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of a training and mentoring program designed to enhance elementary school teachers' ability to create digital posters using Canva for social issues learning. The research addresses the growing need for digital literacy and innovative pedagogical approaches in primary education, particularly in teaching complex social topics. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach (quantitative and qualitative), the study assesses improvements in teachers' digital skills and their pedagogical application of technology for social studies content. Quantitative data, collected via pre-post surveys, measured changes in Canva proficiency and digital literacy. Qualitative data, gathered through interviews and observations, explored teachers' experiences, challenges, and perceived impact on student engagement. Preliminary findings indicate a significant improvement in teachers' technological and pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) related to digital poster creation. Teachers reported increased confidence and creativity in addressing social issues through visual communication, leading to enhanced student participation and deeper understanding of complex topics. The study highlights the crucial role of sustained mentoring in facilitating the practical integration of new digital tools into the curriculum. Recommendations include integrating such programs into continuous professional development frameworks for elementary educators.
